LIFE 101- The Authentic Christian Life
Recently we began a sermon series study of the Sermon on the Mount as preached by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I have been very encouraged by the study and I pray that this series of messages have been a blessing and helped to strengthen your walk with God. All of the messages are available at the church website.
Through this study, the Holy Spirit has been teaching me and giving me a much greater understanding and appreciation for the context and depth of this great sermon from our Lord. The life that Christ here teaches us about is one that is lived by and through the power of the Holy Spirit and by the grace of God. This is the key to the Christian life. It is not intended to be lived apart from God’s power and grace. Dr. Ed Hindson notes,
Embodied in the Sermon on the Mount is a summation of Jesus’ basic ethical teaching of the life of a born-again man. The Sermon on the Mount is a presentation of Christian discipleship which can be wrought in the soul of an individual only by the power of God. This message does not tell one how to be saved; it tells one what it is like to be saved. It explains the quality of the life changed by the saving grace of God...the quality of life herein described is the necessary product of grace alone. As Jesus states the outward legal requirements of the law and then carries His listener beyond the letter of the law to the true spirit and intent of the law, He describes a life-style which no human being could live in his own power. Thus, the life of the believer, described by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount, is a life of grace and glory, which comes from God alone.
From His own lips, Christ is giving us the basic principles of how to live an authentic Christian life. It is a God-life. Live it in victory! All messages in this series are available at www.sermon.net/baptisttemple.
